Located on the Wild Atlantic Way in Tralee, County Kerry, Siamsa Tíre celebrates 50 years of the National Folk Theatre of Ireland - the only theatre company dedicated to protecting and developing authentic Irish traditions of music, song and dance. It presents a professional cast of full-time performers and international champion dancers, musicians and singers, all trained in the unique Siamsa Tíre style. From May to September, they perform unique productions that bring Irish traditions, folklore, culture and heritage of old to life and showcase the best of Irish music, song and dance. Our purpose built 350 seat theatre and arts centre, housed within a ring fort replicating those along the Wild Atlantic Way, welcomes audiences from all over the world. Productions include: Fadó Fadó, an entertaining portrayal of rural Ireland and typical family life across the four seasons 100 years ago; Oileán, a celebration of the lives of the community that lived on the Blasket Islands, and Turas, which takes you on a journey of music, song and dance from around Ireland. The National Folk Theatre cultivates Irish art forms by creating and performing Folk Theatre stage productions at home and touring abroad, developing new works (a new show will debut in 2018 to celebrate its 50th year). It also continues to train Irish artists in the Siamsa Tíre cultural traditions through its Training Academy. This Academy also offers workshops allowing visitors to take part in these living Irish traditions to learn Irish songs or dances from the stage repertoire and get a glimpse backstage. Our theatre space includes a large rehearsal room, four dressing rooms, green room and workshop/boardroom. From October to April, Siamsa Tíre hosts a wide range of theatre events, and its gallery spaces display the work of artists from Ireland and abroad throughout the year. Siamsa Tíre also offers a full bar including whiskey or local beer tastings.
