As overseas meeting and conference organisers plan their long-awaited return to Ireland, health and safety will be foremost in their minds. Ireland is currently putting in the groundwork needed to safely welcome back international business tourists to the wealth of amazing MICE venues our country has to offer, after a period of lengthy travel restrictions. A key part of this effort is the COVID-19 Safety Charter, a unique system that has been in operation across Ireland for almost a year.
Fáilte Ireland (the National Tourism Development Authority) developed the COVID-19 Safety Charter in 2020 to demonstrate the measures taken not just by partners in the leisure tourism and hospitality industry (like hotels and venues) to make their establishments safe for visitors, but also by Destination Management Companies and Professional Conference Organisers.
These robust safety measures will provide clarity and reassurance to overseas organisers and planners that their delegates will be protected as they resume business tourism activities in Ireland. When an international delegate sees the distinctive green and white Safety Charter symbol, they can be assured that the business displaying the symbol has agreed to carefully follow recommended safety, hygiene and cleaning guidelines and has trained their staff to do likewise.
As Meet in Ireland's trusted industry partners prepare to welcome business tourists back to Ireland, Destination Management Companies (DMCs) like Wallace Travel Group, Odyssey International and A Touch of Ireland are proud to be compliant with the Safety Charter protocols, ensuring the protection of organisers and delegates. Professional Conference Organisers like Conference Partners International have also committed to the Safety Charter as they assist planners with queries on staging their MICE activities in Ireland. You'll find a full list of Safety Charter-compliant industry partners at the bottom of this page.
One of the many participating businesses includes Ireland’s most popular tourist attraction, the Guinness Storehouse, which typically sees over a million visitors a year. International conference destinations like the Aviva Stadium and Croke Park Meetings and Events have also signed up, while cultural landmarks like Cork's The Glucksman Gallery and Limerick's Hunt Museum have followed suit.
The level of participation in the scheme has been very high; over 5,100 Irish businesses, including over 850 hotels, have registered. To date, over 70 Meet in Ireland business tourism trade partners have also registered, with the Meet in Ireland team actively encouraging all trade partners to seek this accreditation.
