Pump some fun and adrenaline into city sightseeing and arrange for your incentive trip group to get out in the fresh air and experience getting around the city at a different pace
How do you mix the great outdoors with a city trip? You bring your group outdoors of course.
Getting from A to B is one of the main features of any incentive or corporate meeting plan. Transport does not have to be confined to coach however. Transport can itself turn into an energising activity with outside-the-box thinking – especially in a compact city like Dublin.
We’ve put together some ideas to consider adding to your incentive programme.
Organised alternative transport options in Dublin
Segway
A sightseeing tour by Segway is one of the ways to truly incentivise a group. Not yet something that most participants will have gathering dust in their garage, Segway gives incentive groups an interesting focus. Segway tours are available in Dublin city centre through Glide Tours which promises a “Futuristic Glide through History”. It has two tours – the Dublin Docklands and the Phoenix Park (the largest city park in Europe).
Bicycle hire
Dublin is no Amsterdam when it comes to cycling. But as a reasonably flat city (it’s no Rome when it comes to hills, thankfully) cycling is an option for incentive groups.
Dublin has cycle lanes throughout the city and along the coast, which make traversing the city and sightseeing by bike possible. Dublin’s Phoenix Park makes for a good location for your group to experience nature and practise balancing on two wheels.
There’s a great selection of bicycle hire companies in the city offering all sorts of cycling experiences.
Horse drawn-carriage
One way to ensure your incentive participants get to sit back and experience Dublin city at a slow pace is by horse-drawn carriage. Combine this with the company of a Georgian history expert and your clients will be transported back in time.
Boat
Viking Splash Tours
Seeing the city streets by boat anywhere but Venice may seem impossible. In Dublin, an amphibious sightseeing tour is possible with Viking Splash Tours using a DUKW vehicle which looks like a boat on wheels. This traverses through the city centre by road before entering the water at Dublin’s Grand Canal Harbour.
Sea Safari
It’s possible to bring incentive groups on a thrilling boat ride from the city centre to the coast using custom tours from a provider like Sea Safari.
Walking
Dublin is a perfect city for exploring on foot. Bring the city to life by arranging a walking tour for visitors. Want to give your incentive group some independence? Talk to the Meet in Ireland team. We can provide maps and other supports to help them get around.
Independent alternative transport options in Dublin
Ecocabs
Ecocabs are a modern rickshaw – except they are free of charge and are limited to a 2km radius from Dublin city centre. Propelled by pedal power, this mode of transport is free thanks to advertising sponsorship. This is a safe and exhilarating way to get tired group members back to their hotel at no cost. If the budget is there it could be worth talking to Ecocabs about sponsoring your very own ecocab!
Dublinbikes
There are more than 40 ‘dublinbikes’ stations across Dublin city with a minimum of 15 bike stands at each. Bikes are free for the first 30 minutes with costs varying for further use. The RDS venue has put in a request for a station close to the venue which may be of interest to corporate meeting and conference organisers.
Where do I find out more? Talk to the team at Dublin Convention Bureau or a destination management company (DMC).
